Berries! Wed Muse # 13

Hello Wednesday musers. A very simple prompt for you all today - berries .

Write about a memory you have about berries, picking them, eating them, strawberry shortcake, blackberry cobbler, berry ice cream.  The choice is yours as is the poetic form.

I remember standing in the heat picking blackberries and getting ticks,  chiggers, sun burn.  And eating the whole time!

Whether you get your berries from the grocery, farmers market, or pick them at a u-pick 'em place or in the wild, give me a poem about berries.

Sunday Muse: Wednesday Muse # 12 - Sevenling Poem

I thought for today, I would prompt a poetry form:  Sevenling.  It is one of my favorite forms.  It is a surprisingly easy form and yet it carries a lot of depth.  Basically you are looking at a 7-line poem (two tercets and a one liner) with these parameters:

  • Three lines that contain an element of three.  This could be three connected or contrasting statement, a list of three names or details.  The three things can take up all three lines or be contained elsewhere in the stanza.
  • Three more lines that contain an element of three (can relate to stanza one directly or as a juxtaposition or have not connection whatsoever).
  • Final line: a punchline, a strange twist, narrative summary, or a punctuation mark, of sorts.
No particular rhyme or rhythm or meter are required.  Titles are also not required but if you choose to title your poem, the title should be : "Sevenling:" followed by the first few words in parentheses.  The tone should be mysterious, offbeat, or disturbing, and the poem should have an atmosphere that invites guesswork from the reader.

Here is an example of a sevenling poem written by me:

Sevenling:  Night Music
in the warm summer night
music unites the voices of frogs,
crickets, and cicadas.

stars sing tales of travelers,
and lovers, and magicians,
and lonely folk like me.

And every night they sing just for me.

So let's get writing Wednesday Musers!  It is an easy form or difficult, depending on the complexity of your lines.

Sunday Muse: Wednesday Muse # 11: I love to laugh!

Hi Musers! What makes you laugh? Not necessarily give you joy but what makes you laugh? It is the antics of your pupper or cat? Something your kid does? A joke? Does a standup comic make you laugh? And be honest, does someone slipping on ice make you laugh?

I'd like to hear a funny poem - real or made up. Some jakes for example:

What does a cat have for breakfast? Mice Krispies!

What do you call a dog magician? A Labracadabrador!

What did the blanket say to the bed? I've got you covered!

Yes. These are corny. But you get my drift. I want funny from you. Let's make each other laugh. Let's share a smile and a giggle.
