Sunday Muse #186 -- "Illusion"

Hello friends, its me, Fireblossom, with your monthlies. As usual when it's my week, you get a choice of any--or all--of three themed images to write for.

This time the theme is "illusion." None of the three pictures are what they appear to be. However, you needn't incorporate that into your poem--you can take them at face value or any other way they inspire you. The only caveat is, no hate. Did I even need to say that to you fine Musers?

Okay, here they are, with a note as to why they suit the theme!

This is not Louise Brooks, star of the silent screen. It's contemporary actress Mischa Barton doing a bang-up impersonation.

This is not a girl. He's a male tiktoker called jessit0.

This is not a guy. She's a drag king (name not given.) Looking good!

Write, link, visit, have fun! And if you don't include an image (qbit!), please let us know which you're writing for. :-)

    1. Um...I think their names are Ed and Phyllis? No?

    2. In the modern re-telling (where Odysseus is tied to the livingroom couch between two television sets), Ed and Phyllis are the sirens. One doing infomercials for the Hair Club for Men, the other cheap jewelry on the shopping channel.

    3. How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly (?) singing

    4. "'Come here,' they sang, 'renowned Ulysses, honor to the Achaean name, and listen to our two voices. No one ever sailed past us without staying to hear the enchanting sweetness of our song- and he who listens will go on his way not only charmed, but wiser, for we know all the ills that the gods laid upon the Argives and Trojans before Troy, and can tell you everything that is going to happen over the whole world.'

  4. Love the pics, Shay. I'm working with something for the first one, but it may take awhile. See you if and when it emerges from its cocoon.

    2. Thanks for the quiet work environment. With that and coffee the one line I started with turned into something of a Russian novel, only an American talkie(and how apropos that is) instead.

    3. It's fantastic, Joy. I will stop by again later to read yet again (I already savored it three times) but for now I just want to sit here and grin for having read it.

  6. Really neat prompt choices today. Thank you Shay.
I had to write from Brooks also, we had pictures of my mom of her wearing a hat like hers, my sister has them now. Dad often teasingly called her a flapper, she was five years younger than Louise.
